Upon its release, the track debuted at #1 on the iTunes Philippines all-genre chart, another record for Julie’s book, with her previous releases “Regrets,” “Breakthrough” album and it’s singles (“Tayong Dalawa” and “Nothing Left”) sharing the same success. The two artists were also featured as the cover of Spotify’s New Music Friday Philippines playlist.
Produced and written by OPM rock icon Rico Blanco, the track brings Julie into the shoes of the “third party” in someone else’s relationship, as it explores themes of forbidden love and longing for someone you can’t have. Aside from the unique point of view the singer-songwriter puts herself in for the first time, the music it is set to brings forth a unique mix of musical styles — featuring the Pinoy jukebox style of hugot, and putting some modern synth elements as well, resulting into a fresh yet familiar sound audiences would relate to.
Coming from a year of breakthroughs and heartaches, singer-songwriter Julie Anne San Jose returns with a brand new single that signifies a new chapter in her life.
Julie’s first album under Universal Records, “Breakthrough” broke the boundaries, with her change of sound and approach to her music. All of its singles (Nothing Left, Tayong Dalawa, Down For Me) and the album itself reached the top of the iTunes charts during their first day of release, with the song “Your Song (My One and Only)” also reaching 9 million streams and counting on Spotify.
This year, Julie is set to continue her stride with the release of her newest composition “Regrets.” The emotional song is a reflection of her experiences from the past year, may it be about her career or personal life.
Minutes after its release, the new single already reached the top spot on the iTunes Philippines All Genre and Pop Charts, continuing her streak of #1 hit singles, joining the likes of K-Pop groups BTS and Blackpink on top of the charts.
Breakthrough is Julie’s first album under Universal Records where she explores a different genre of music unheard from her previous releases. Prior to its release, the album’s featured singles ‘Nothing Left‘, her rendition of the Parokya ni Edgar classic ‘Your Song (My One and Only),’ her original song ‘Tayong Dalawa‘ and ‘Down for Me (featuring Fern.)’ all topped various charts as well.

Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose has released a new album under GMA Records entitled, Chasing The Light. Even before the release of the album, her carrier single and one of several she penned in the album, “Naririnig Mo Ba”, has already topped the iTunes charts after its digital release in June. The song is about faith in love and the hope of feeling in love again, which anyone can relate to.
According to the Kapuso singer-actress, her album is closely similar to her recently released EP, Forever.
“Chasing The Light is more mature in the way na nag-evolve ‘yung genre. It’s different, kasi yung nauna kong albums with GMA Records, parang medyo ballad. I think my fans and I are on the same page when it comes to the kind of music I would make. I think they will like the album just how they liked my EPs,” Julie Anne relates.
Her latest album consists of several original songs and a revival, with Julie Anne’s writing the lyrics for two songs. She also collaborated with international rapper C-Tru, who has high regard for the Kapuso star’s talent. “As a Filipino-American with deep roots in the Philippines, it is an honor to collaborate with talented local artists such as Julie Anne. It’s amazing to be able to connect the Filipino culture here in the U.S. with my kababayan back home through the universal language of music,” C-Tru claims.
Deeper is a good album. The prospects are good. It landed the No. 1 spot on iTunes on its first day of release last June 1. It is a light, varied pop collection that should easily please her fans. What I like most about it though is that Julie Anne shows herself to be an adept songwriter. This, I think, is the quality that distinguishes her from other girl singers today. She started out writing two songs in her first album — When You Said Goodbye and Baby You Are — and even arranged the latter. She did not arrange anything in Deeper but she did compose a lot of songs. In fact, half of the album are very well-written originals in both English and Filipino by Julie Anne.
In August 2012, she released her self-titled debut album which later on received numerous awards and is now a certified diamond record. Her single, “I’ll Be There” remains the only single certified double platinum, triple platinum and quadruple platinum by the Philippine Association of the Recording Industry (PARI).

May pagkakapareho sina Julie Anne San Jose at Arci Muñoz. Sa tuwing makikita ko sila, may mapapansin kang bago sa kanilang mukha na nakakabighani.
Sina Arci at Julie Anne is one of the busiest sa kanilang contemporaries. Nasa magkaibang network silang dalawa.
